Let’s face it, many of us struggle with our weight. For that reason, many people wanting to lose weight will buy almost any diet plans, meal replacements, health shakes or weight loss supplements to get themselves into better shape, yet unfortunately, many of these so-called “miracle diet solutions” are only marginally effective at best, and are no way near as effective as the manufacturers would have you believe.

What you probably hear a lot of nowadays, is words such as ‘super food’. Super foods are believed to possess far greater health benefits than regular foods. Well, one super food that has been grabbing a lot of attention and generating a great deal of buzz lately, is green coffee beans.

Though studies are still ongoing, initial findings are all pointing to the fact that green coffee beans, could be one of, if not the most, powerful and effective weight loss super food supplement to ever hit the shelves.

What Is Green Coffee Bean?

Brown vs GreenWe all know that our regular cup of coffee comes from deep rich brown beans. The coffee beans get their rich brown or even black color from roasting – in order to enhance their flavor and aroma.

On the other hand, green coffee beans are basically coffee beans in their raw form, that have not yet been roasted. A number of tests conducted on green coffee beans over the years have found that these seeds could very well possess some extremely potent and powerful weight loss qualities.

How Do Green Coffee Beans Help Us To Lose Weight?

Both green and the regular roasted brown coffee beans contain a potent ingredient called chlorogenic acid. Studies on chlorogenic acid shows that it has the ability to increase our body’s metabolism to promote faster weight loss.

However, the high levels of natural chlorogenic acid in the beans, is substantially lowered once the coffee seeds are roasted in extremely high temperatures. Therefore, roasted brown coffee beans loses the beneficial natural antioxidant as compared with raw, unroasted green coffee beans.

Now, raw green coffee beans are extremely bitter; so to harness the full health benefits of chlorogenic acid inside the seeds, the beans are usually made available in capsule form for consumption.

Studies And Claims

One of the most promising studies regarding green coffee beans and their ability to aid in fat loss, was published in the year 2012, in the scholarly journal entitled “Diabetes, Metabolic Syndrome and Obesity: Targets and Therapy”.

In the study, a number of human subjects were encouraged to consume fairly high doses of pure green coffee bean supplement extract (1050mg) for 14 days. For the next 14 days, they would consume a much lower dose of the extract, with just 700mg, before finally, consuming a simple placebo for a further 14 days. In between switching their doses from 1050mg down to 700mg, and then onto the placebo, the subjects took a 2 week break in-between each change, where they consumed no supplements whatsoever.

After the test concluded, the study noted that the green coffee bean extract had resulted in a decrease in bodyweight, a decrease in body fat levels, a slight decrease in heart rate, and a decrease in their BMI (Body Mass Index). Over this period, all subjects consumed the same foods, and maintained the exact same levels of physical activity.

Safety Issues To Be Wary Of

Since green coffee bean extract contains natural stimulants, including caffeine, which can lead to insomnia and restlessness, women who are pregnant, or are breastfeeding are advised against taking the supplement.

There are also some reports of slight stomach upsets being experienced during the first few days of taking this supplement.

Individuals with cardiovascular related issues are also strongly advised against taking the supplement.

What To Look For When Buying Green Coffee Bean

As green coffee bean extract is proving so beneficial when it comes to losing weight, not surprisingly, a number of health supplement manufacturers have quickly jumped on board and have began creating their own green coffee bean extract supplements. Whilst variety is generally a good thing, there are a few things to be wary of. Here are a few tips to help you choose the right supplement for your weight loss goals:

  • Green Coffee SupplementIs it 100% pure? – Read the label of the product, and if it isn’t 100% pure, you may want to look elsewhere.
  • Look for a chlorogenic acid level of between 40 to 50% – Chlorogenic acid is responsible for helping you to lose weight, and a level of 40% and up is the ideal concentration to be effective. If it’s anything less than that, look for a product with higher levels.
  • Look where it is made – Read the bottle, and if it doesn’t state where the product was made, look for one that is made in the USA (for strict health, safety, and manufacturing regulations.)
  • Is it lab verified? – The bottle or packaging should also state whether the product is lab verified in a fully certified testing lab. If it isn’t you may want to look elsewhere for one that is.
